GFDL Ocean General Circulation Model Collaborators

چکیده
Ocean general circulation models (OGCMs) are important tools for climatological research. These models approximate the solution to the governing equations to predict horizontal velocity components, temperature, salinity, and other chosen parameters. The GFDL OGCM, or Modular Ocean Model (MOM), is an example of such a code. This code was originally developed at the Geophysical Fluids Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL) and later substantially enhanced by researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Status Report: Parallel Ocean Circulation on Cedar
We present recent results from the design of the GFDL ocean circulation model for the Cedar multicluster architecture. The model simulates the basic aspects of largescale, baroclinic ocean circulation, including treatment of irregular bottom topography. We concentrate on several modifications and versions of the code that are designed to exploit the memory and computational hierarchy of Cedar, ...
متن کاملPredictability of the Indian Ocean sea surface temperature anomalies in the GFDL coupled model
[1] We explore the predictability of the sea surface temperature anomalies associated with the Indian Ocean Dipole/Zonal Mode (IODZM) at a three-season lead, within the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL) coupled general circulation model (CGCM). In both control simulations and retrospective forecasts of the 1990’s in the CGCM, we find that the occurrence of some IODZM events is precon...
متن کاملAn Evaluation of Air–Sea Flux Products for ENSO Simulation and Prediction
This paper presents a quantitative methodology for evaluating air–sea fluxes related to ENSO from different atmospheric products. A statistical model of the fluxes from each atmospheric product is coupled to an ocean general circulation model (GCM). Four different products are evaluated: reanalyses from the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) and the European Centre for Medium-...
متن کاملOn the Climatic Impact of Ocean Circulation
Integrations of coupled climate models with mixed-layer and fixed-current ocean components are used to explore the climatic response to varying magnitudes of ocean circulation. Four mixed-layer ocean experiments without ocean heat transports are performed using two different atmosphere–land components—the new GFDL AM2 and the GFDL Manabe Climate Model (MCM)—and two different sea ice components,...
متن کامل3D Modeling of Wind-Driven Circulation In The Northern Indian Ocean During Monsoon
Abstract The purpose of this research is to design and identify some of the natures and characteristics of high-resolution surface currents in the Northern Indian Ocean. The pattern of 3D circulation of the Wind-driven surface currents, Sea surface temperature (SST) and Sea Surface Salinity (SSS) distribution in the Northern Indian Ocean using The MIT general circulation model (MITgcm) with ho...
